The clinical and scientific interest of the working group is focussed on corneal transplantation and ocular surface reconstruction and the development of new approaches to ocular surface and lacrimal gland regeneration.

A particular research focus is the development of replacement tissues for the reconstruction of the conjunctiva and cornea and the stimulation of corneal nerve regeneration for the development of new therapies for neurotrophic keratopathy.

Another focus is the evaluation of the regenerative potential of epithelial and mesenchymal lacrimal gland stem cells with a view to clinical application in patients with severe dry eye disease and the establishment of vascularised 3D models for the reconstruction of the lacrimal gland.
