University Institute for Medical Microbiology and Virology

The University Institute for Medical Microbiology and Virology is a central institute at Klinikum Oldenburg. It conducts diagnostics for infectious pathogens for Klinikum Oldenburg and other hospitals. The specialists use culture, serology, and molecular biological methods to detect bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. They analyze samples from all inpatients and outpatients.
The test results of inpatients are communicated and explained to the physicians in the referring departments. Findings are also made available to the attending physicians digitally via the hospital information system as quickly as possible. This ensures that the diagnostic results can be incorporated into patient treatment in a timely manner.
