The University Clinic and Department of Experimental Allergology and Immunodermatology has several research laboratories covering an area of over 130 square metres on the campus in Wechloy, which were completed in 2017. The focus of our research department is on autoimmune diseases such as bullous pemphigoid, allergies, skin cancer and inflammatory skin diseases such as atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis and psoriasis.
We are particularly interested in the role of basophil and eosinophil granulocytes in these diseases, whose released inflammatory mediators play a decisive role in the severity of the symptoms of these diseases and also have an effect on other immune cells that control these diseases. Our research is funded by the DFG (Research Unit FOR2690), among others. Methodologically, we cover the entire spectrum of cellular inflammation research with isolation of target cells, cell culture, western blot, PCR, immunohistochemistry, histamine release assays, ELISA, cytation imaging and FACS.
