University Clinic for Urology
University Clinic for Urology
Around 3.300 inpatient treatments and 6.000 outpatient examinations are carried out at the University Clinic for Urology at Oldenburg Hospital every year. These include, for example, diseases of the kidneys, renal pelvis, ureter or prostate.
In addition to open surgical procedures, the clinic's spectrum includes minimally invasive laparoscopic, endoscopic and non-surgical urological treatment methods. A particular focus is on the surgical treatment of urological cancers, especially prostate cancer. The clinic is one of the largest prostate cancer centres in Germany certified by the German Cancer Society.
State-of-the-art technology such as various laser systems and a surgical robot ("DaVinci") for minimally invasive procedures are available for surgical treatment. The University Department of Urology is also part of the Centre for Interdisciplinary Robotic Surgery Oldenburg (ZIRCOL).
In addition to participating in multi-centre urological studies, such as the ProSTone study initiated by the Martini Clinic in Hamburg, the Department of Urology also conducts its own clinical studies. One focus of research is on uro-oncology, in particular sentinel lymph node diagnostics. This involves research into new methods for targeted lymph node removal and molecular detection of lymph node metastases in urological tumours. With its uro-oncological research activities, the Department of Urology is also involved in the University Medicine Oldenburg's Oncology Potential Area.
