Mit der Ausschreibung des 23. internationalen Kompositionswettbewerbs 2025/26 will das Institut für Musik der Carl von Ossietzky Universität Oldenburg das Repertoire zeitgenössischer Musik und elektroakustisch-digitaler Musizierpraktiken und Musikkulturen mittleren Schwierigkeitsgrades erweitern.

Für den aktuellen Durchgang schreibt das Institut für Musik den Wettbewerb aus für Kompositionen, die Verbindungen zwischen analog-physischen, elektroakustischen und digital-elektronischen Musikinstrumenten, sowie zwischen experimentell-zeitgenössischer Musik und populären Musikkulturen schaffen. 

Das Ensemble soll zehn Musiker:innen nicht überschreiten. Neben den üblichen Orchester- und Bigbandinstrumenten sowie Gesangs-/Sprechstimmen müssen mindestens zwei verschiedene elektronische/digitale Instrumente aus einer vorgegebenen Liste (Link) zum Einsatz kommen. Die jeweiligen elektronischen/digitalen Musikmedien ( z.B. Hardware-Synthesizer, MIDI-Controller, Audio-Software), sowie eine entsprechende PA werden für die Realisierung der Preisträger-Kompositionen von der Uni Oldenburg zur Verfügung gestellt. In der Komposition sollte spielbare sog. (ggf. digitale) Live-Elektronik im Vordergrund stehen. Zuspielungen o.ä. sind zusätzlich innerhalb des gegebenen Rahmens möglich. Von Installationen über gewöhnliche, standardmäßige Lautsprechertechnik hinaus (Mehrkanal, Surround etc.) bitten wir abzusehen.

Die eingesendeten Werke sollen von geschulten Laien bzw. interessierten Musikstudierenden (Instrumente, Gesangs-/Sprechstimme, Musikproduktion) gut zu lesen und aufführbar sein.

Die eingereichten Werke sollen einen mittleren Schwierigkeitsgrad und eine Aufführungsdauer von 20 Minuten nicht überschreiten und dürfen bislang weder veröffentlicht noch aufgeführt worden sein. Für die Teilnahme am Wettbewerb gibt es keine Altersbegrenzung.
Kompositionen von Teams (Komposition, Klangregie, etc.) sind auch möglich. Die inhaltliche Ausrichtung der Werke ist freigestellt.

Die Werke mit Werkkommentar werden anonym in zweifacher Ausfertigung erbeten, sowie ein verschlossener Briefumschlag, der Namen und Adresse des Absenders und einen kurzen Lebenslauf enthalten soll. Die Einsendungen können nur auf dem Postweg erfolgen."

With the announcement of the 23rd International Composition Competition 2025/26, the Institute of Music at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg aims to expand the repertoire of contemporary music and electro-acoustic/digital music-making practices and music cultures of medium difficulty.

For the current round, the Institute of Music is inviting entries for compositions that create connections between analog-physical, electro-acoustic and digital-electronic musical instruments, as well as between experimental-contemporary music and popular music cultures. 

The ensemble should not exceed ten musicians. In addition to the usual orchestral and big band instruments and vocal/voice parts, at least two different electronic/digital instruments from a specified list (Link) must be used. The respective electronic/digital music media (e.g. hardware synthesizers, MIDI controllers, audio software) as well asa corresponding PA (amplification) will be provided bythe University of Oldenburg for the realization of the prize-winning compositions. The composition should focus on playable so-called live electronics. Additional playbacks/tapes are also possible within the given framework. Please refrain from using installations that go beyond the usual, standard loudspeaker technology (multi-channel, special surround-settings etc.).

The submitted works should be easily readable and performable by trained amateurs or interested music students (instruments, singing/speaking voice, music production).The submitted works should not exceed a medium level of difficulty and a performance time of 20 minutes and must not have been previously published or performed. There is no age limit for participation in the competition.Compositions by teams (composition, sound direction, etc.) are also possible. The thematic content of the works is open.

The works with commentary are requested anonymously in duplicate, as well as a sealed envelope containing the name and address of the sender and a short curriculum vitae. Entries can only be sent by post."

Gesucht wurden Kompositionen im Bereich zwischen Musik und Szene, Klang und Aktion, Musik und Theater, etwa in Form von Musiktheaterminiaturen, Musikperformance(s), Expanded Music oder anderen derartigen Spielformen.

Die Jury hat die anspruchsvollen und künstlerisch vielfältigen Einsendungen in einem anonymen Verfahren gesichtet und sich entschieden, folgende Kompositionen zu prämieren:

1. Preis (1000 Euro) für „Im Frühling 2022“ von Yuanbin Cao, Stuttgart

2. Preis (700 Euro) für “Vergessen und Sein” von Niklas A. Chroust, Wien

3. Preis (500 Euro) für „Fusion“ von Yuanbin Cao, Stuttgart

Vier weitere Kompositionen werden wegen ihrer hohen Qualität, was die kompositorische Idee und ihre praktische Umsetzbarkeit anbelangt, in das Repertoire des Kompositionswettbewerbs aufgenommen:

“nochmal normal” von Benedikt Bindewald, Berlin

„Contact“ von Yuanbin Cao, Stuttgart

Am Tag der Auswahlsitzung der Jury am So, 9.2.2025 um 19.00 Uhr wurde die Produktion Plans for Future Operas des norwegischen Komponisten und Autors Øyvind Torvund im Rahmen der Konzertreihe NOIeS! von klangpol in der EXHALLE des Oldenburgischen Staatstheaters präsentiert. Mehr Informationen HIER.

22nd international competition with a focus on "music_scene_theatre"

We are looking for compositions in the field between music and scene, sound and action, music and theatre, for example in the form of music theatre miniatures, music performance(s), expanded music or other such forms of performance.

The submission deadline for compositions was 31 December 2024.

The jury reviewed the challenging and artistically diverse submissions in an anonymous process and decided to award prizes to the following compositions:

1st prize (1000 euros) for ‘Im Frühling 2022’ by Yuanbin Cao, Stuttgart

For the current round, the Institute of Music is holding a competition for compositions in the field between music and scene, sound and action, music and theatre, for example in the form of music theatre miniatures, music performance(s), expanded music or other such forms of performance.

The submitted works should be easy to read and perform by trained amateurs or interested music students (instruments, singing/speaking voice, action/performance, dance, etc.). The exact instrumentation is open, but chamber music formations (approx. 1-10 performers) should be favoured.

The submitted works should not exceed a medium level of difficulty and a performance time of 20 minutes and must not have been published or performed before. There is no age limit for participation in the competition.

Compositions by teams (composition, direction, etc.) are also possible. The content of the works is open.

The works with a work commentary are requested anonymously in duplicate, as well as a sealed envelope containing the name and address of the sender and a short CV. Entries can only be sent by post.
