Observer space geometry: introduction to Finsler and Cartan geometries

Abstract: This talk gives a brief introduction to Finsler and Cartan geometries, with a particular
focus on the Lorentzian signature case. The latter is most relevant for relativistic physics, as it
provides the most general description of 1. relativistic particle trajectories with moving clocks,
2. the causal structure of field theories governed by hyperbolic PDEs and 3. gravity theories.
Besides introducing the mathematical structures, also a brief physical application will be
discussed.
