über

A gluing construction of singular solutions of the Hitchin self duality equations and certain harmonic maps

The 3-sphere can be decomposed into two hyperbolic hemispheres sharing the equatorial 2- sphere as their common boundary at infinity. I will discuss the construction of maps from Riemann surfaces into the 3-sphere which are harmonic away from the equatorial 2-sphere, but pass through orthogonally. These singular harmonic maps are closely related to a class of singular solutions of the SL(2,C)-Hitchin self duality equations. I will explain the relationship between these. Afterwards, I will focus on the gluing construction of these solutions, which requires application of the 0-calculus and methods of semiclassical analysis.
