Hiermit möchten wir Sie gerne auf die Lunch Time Lecture zum Thema Diversitätssensible Medizin im Rahmen der Reihe Gender und Diversity in MINT und Medizin der Fakultäten V und VI hinweisen.
Was ist normal? Die Diversitätsmedizin auf der Suche nach adäquaten Referenzwerten
In der Medizin wird Gesundheit oft durch das Vorliegen normaler Befunde definiert. Doch was genau ist „normal“? Meistens werden normal und häufig gleichgesetzt. Referenzwerte werden so definiert, dass 95% der Messwerte aus einer gesunden Population in diesen Bereich fallen. In dem Vortrag wird anhand des Blutbildes (weiße Blutkörperchen, rote Blutkörperchen, Blutplättchen) herausgearbeitet, welche Fallstricke in der aktuellen Umsetzung dieses medizinischen Konzepts liegen und welche Verbesserungen eine diversitätssensible Medizin hier leisten kann. Anhand dieses Beispiels soll konkret illustriert werden, was Diversitätsmedizin ausmacht.
Referentin ist Prof. Dr. med. Marie von Lilienfeld-Toal, Fachärztin für Innere Medizin, Professorin für Versorgungsforschung in der Onkologie und Leiterin des ersten deutschen Instituts für Diversitätsmedizin an der Ruhr-Universität Bochum.

(ENG) We would like to draw your attention to the Lunch Time Lecture on Diversity-Sensitive Medicine as part of the series Gender and Diversity in STEM and Medicine of Faculties V and VI.
What is normal? Diversity medicine in search of adequate reference values
In medicine, health is often defined by the presence of normal findings. But what exactly is “normal”? In most cases, normal and common are equated. Reference values are defined in such a way that 95% of the measured values from a healthy population fall within this range. In the lecture, the blood count (white blood cells, red blood cells, platelets) will be used to highlight the pitfalls in the current implementation of this medical concept and the improvements that diversity-sensitive medicine can make here. This example will be used to illustrate in concrete terms what diversity medicine is all about.
The speaker is Prof. Dr. med. Marie von Lilienfeld-Toal, specialist in internal medicine, professor of health services research in oncology and head of the first German Institute for Diversity Medicine at the Ruhr University Bochum.
