Hardware security key (YubiKey)
Hardware security key (YubiKey)
A hardware security key, such as a YubiKey, can be used as a second factor for authentication. When touched, this generates a TOTP (Time-based One Time Password), i.e. a 6-digit number, and transmits this ‘automatically’ to the online service. It is therefore not necessary to enter the TOTP manually, which makes the 2FA process easier and more convenient to use.
Hardware security key ("YubiKey") for university employees
All employees of the University receive a YubiKey as a security key:
What happens if I lose the security key?
Please contact the IT service desk immediately to have your YubiKey temporarily or permanently blocked. This will prevent an attacker from being able to use your YubiKey.
After reporting the loss, if another 2nd factor has been set up in addition to the YubiKey, you can also try to set it up again yourself in the 2FA portal - see here
