Project Title: Recomposing the Blackbox – Critical Education through AI-Powered Music Generation (RECOMPOSE)

The RECOMPOSE booster unit will develop a software environment that enables pupils and teachers to interact with artificial intelligence (AI) in a playful manner through music. Instead of seeing AI as either a threat or a solution, RECOMPOSE takes an alternative approach: it shows how AI works, where it can create biases and how these biases can be detected and critically challenged.
A specially designed music AI will enable users to hear how the functions of AI-powered music programmes affect their products, and how this can be used to promote marginalisation and exclusion. This gives young people the opportunity to gain an understanding of how decisions are made in music-related AI systems and transfer this knowledge to other areas of life. The project is supported by scientists from the fields of education, computer science and music education and offers insights into the "black box" of AI."
