First Semester

Here on this page, we have compiled some relevant information for starting your NÖK, SEM and WCM studies.

If you have any questions or anything is unclear, just send us an email, message us through the WhatsApp group or contact us on Instagram (@fs_semwcmnoek_oldenburg) – we'll be happy to help.

O-Week und First semester Weekend

Community is at the heart of our programmes and what better way to get to know each other than during Orientation Week!

During the week of 6 - 10 October 2025, before the official start of lectures, we want to give you the opportunity to get to know each other in peace and quiet, to get an overview of the campus and the city, and to find out what to expect in the coming months! There will be a mixture of information, games and fun. You will also be accompanied throughout the programme by mentors from the higher semesters, who will be available to answer any questions you may have about your studies or anything else.

Further information and registration for O-Week, as well as links to the WhatsApp groups for each degree programme, will be sent to your university email address. We will be sending out these emails from mid-September, so be sure to check your inbox.

We look forward to seeing you!

Save the date:

From 7 November to 9 November 2025, our first- semester weekend will take place in Neuharlingersiel – a great opportunity to get to know each other even better.

Another event we would like to recommend is the NachDenkstatt – a sustainability conference that originated from the FSR and is still organised by some SEM and NÖK students today.

In 2025, it will take place on 25 October at the University of Oldenburg with the main theme of inclusion. (The NachDenkstatt will be held in German.)

Be sure to make a note of both dates!

Further information on starting your studies

Do I have to take a preparatory course before starting my studies?

No – there are no (mandatory) preparatory courses offered in any of the three degree programmes.

However, the SEM Master's programme does have prerequisite courses in microeconomics, mathematics and business administration. You can find out whether you need to take these courses in your acceptance letter.

The compulsory course Microeconomics („Mikroökonomische Grundlagen der Umwelt- und Ressourcenökonomik“) will take place before Orientation Week as a block course from 29 September 2025 to 2 October 2025, from 8:00 to 18:00 each day in room A05 0-054.

The exact start and end times may change on individual days, based on past experience. This is usually discussed during the event, so you can also have a say in how things go. Be sure to keep an eye on the announcements on Stud.IP.

The compulsory courses in mathematics and business administration take place during the lecture period. You can find the rooms and dates on Stud.IP.

A brief introduction to Stud.IP

Stud.IP is the central platform for many important services related to your studies.

Here you will find your university email, course and exam registration, enrolment certificates and much more.

We have a short video for you that explains the most important features. The introduction was recorded in 2023 – since then, hardly anything has changed in the system, so it is still up to date.

To the Video

The only difference is that two-factor authentication is now required for registration.

Information on this and instructions for setting it up can be found here at IT Services: https://uole.de/2fa
