Research Interests
The New Roots Project (2024–2028) is an initiative of Interreg Germany–Netherlands aimed at strengthening the connection between people and nature in the Ems-Dollart region. The goal is to help new roots grow within society, forming a stable foundation for sustainable transformation.
At the heart of the project lies the promotion of nature connectedness as a basis for environmentally conscious behavior, well-being, and increased biodiversity. In the modern world—especially in Western societies—the human–nature relationship is often disrupted. We tend to view nature primarily as a resource to be used, rather than understanding ourselves as an ecological part of it. The project therefore seeks to foster living, emotional connections between people and nature.
To help these roots grow, the project plants new seeds across different parts of society through concrete activities such as:
Experience-based nature and environmental education in schools, for children and adults
Artistic and cultural initiatives that make nature tangible and visible
Collaboration with businesses and public institutions to promote sustainable management practices
In my dissertation, I focus on nature connectedness as a driver of socio-ecological transformation in the business context. Within my research, I examine how nature-based interventions for employees need to be designed in order to effectively enhance their connection to nature and foster environmentally conscious behavior—both in the workplace and in their private lives.
