Visa for study purposes

Many international students require a visa for their stay in Germany. Citizens of EU countries and other countries (e. g. the USA, Australia) do not require an entry visa. Please check if you need an entry visa to Germany or not:

Renewing your visa

Visas can be obtained from the German embassy in your home country. For the visa, you will need to present your admission letter from the University of Oldenburg (Zulassung), a valid passport for at least another 3 months, and proof of adequate funding (Finanzierungsnachweis).

Proof of funding can be provided, for example, with a blocked account of EUR 11,904 per year (12 x EUR 992 per month), a declaration of commitment or a certificate of scholarship.

Some German authorities now offer the option of submitting applications online. You can use the Federal Foreign Office's Consular Services Portal to apply for a visa.
Please plan enough time for the visa application process, as it can take several months to be issued!

Get support with VisaFlow

If you need help: VisaFlow offers excellent support with the visa application process!

The VisaFlow web is a service designed to assist our international students with all the bureaucratic steps involved in the application for the German Student Visa and Residence Permit. In addition, the Info Hub on the VisaFlow platform offers information and useful tips for important topics such as Housing, Health Insurance, Student Life in Germany, Working as a Student etc.

Activate your free access with the code "UNI OLDENBURG25" at platform.visaflow.app.

Unfortunately, the International Office has no influence on the visa process. If you experience any problems, you must contact the German embassy or consulate responsible for you directly.

Important: If you are unable to arrive in Oldenburg in time for the start of your studies due to visa delays, please contact University’s Admission’s Office:
