Program 2025

year of quantum - women for quantum

On 7 June 2024, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), under the leadership of UNESCO, declared 2025 as the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ). This initiative aims to promote international partnerships and address critical challenges in science and technology. A particular focus here is on promoting equal opportunities for women and men in STEM fields, among other things.

Quantum science reveals a hidden world in which particles behave in ways that challenge our everyday understanding of reality. Electrons can exist in multiple places at once and two particles can remain mysteriously connected no matter how far apart they are. It has led to huge advances in the development of technologies such as quantum computing, quantum cryptography and quantum optics in recent decades. These technologies have the potential to change our world and open up new possibilities for solving complex problems.

School V at the University of Oldenburg is proud of the fact that we are dedicated to researching quantum science in many different areas: research focus (German only).

The following events are intended to promote female students and scientists in this field of research, to inspire them for the challenges and opportunities of quantum physics and technology, to support them in further developing and realising their own research projects in exchange with other female scientists and to illustrate the importance of quantum physics and technology for society.

We would be delighted if you as a student or scientist would attend the event. We would like to invite you to contribute your ideas and research projects and to further develop your own ideas and projects with other female students and scientists.

Clear at a glance - Designing Effective Academic Posters [workshop]

Clear at a glance -

Desiging Effective Academic Posters

Course language English | maximum 12 participants
Trainer: Birgit Lukowski | designspace.suedstern-grafik.de

Course Concept:

Poster sessions are an integral part of scientific conferences. Their purpose is to highlight research results, visualise them, and stimulate discussion. To draw your audience in, you need a clear content structure, a text format optimised for best readability and well-chosen graphics. Above all, you need to think well through how to compellingly organise your contents on the required poster format.

Basic principles of graphic design and layout technique will help you to present your research visually perfectly organized and eye-catching. The course will equip you with both the concepts and the practical design skills to effectively design your own poster during the practise session. At the end of the workshop, you receive useful feedback from group and trainer, how to further improve, optimize and finalise your poster draft.

Contents:

- Conception: target group, objective, intention, context

- Content structure, preparation of text and image

- Design basics: typography, colour, forms of visualisation, proportion and balance, design grids

- Handling poster templates, grids and corporate design elements

- Poster layout practice phase

- Analysis and feedback, tips how to work on

Preparation:
Please bring the material (texts, graphics, etc.) of your research project or already designed poster drafts. You should also have PowerPoint (or a comparable application) available on your device.

Poster exhibition:
The posters developed in the workshop will be presented in a 14-day exhibition at the Wechloy site. The opening is planned to include a guest lecture by an external scientist from the research field.

Dates:
Presence workshop | 31 October 2025 | 9:00 to 16:00 |

Online follow-up | 07 November 2025 | 9:00 to 10:00 |

Poster exhibition | 16 December 2025 | 13:00 to 16:00 |
