Design your own Curriculum

Your curriculum needs to comprise 30 ECTS background modules, a 15 ECTS research module, 6 ECTS skills modules, 30 ECTS master thesis and at least 9 ECTS additional credit points from the neuroscience curriculum. Up to 30 ECTS can come from related master's programs.

Winterterm 2025/2026

Module schedule

Courses can be selected according to your individual preferences of topics and types of modules.

All background modules are full-time block courses lasting 2-3 weeks (6 CP), 4-5 weeks (9 CP), or  6-7 weeks (15 CP). During research modules, students stay for 6-8 weeks full-time in the lab of their chosen supervisor. Alternatively, many supervisors offer part-time internships, in which the project is stretched over a longer period. Skills modules are either block courses during the semester break, or during the semester in the late afternoon hours to be compatible with the other courses.

Module combination table

The overview of module combinations in the Master's program in Neuroscience (winter semester 2025/26) serves as a practical guide for planning your studies. It shows at a glance which modules can be taken in parallel and how they can be combined.

Download the Handbook of Modules or an (incomplete) list of background and skills modules, which you might want to consider according to your specific interests.
