Your tasks
You will be working in the international project ‘Bilingualism in challenging listening conditions: is it a language specific or general mechanism’ which is funded by the VolkswagenStiftung and run by Esther Ruigendijk (university of Oldenburg) and Hanin Karawani (university of Haifa). In this project we study how well multilingual listeners perform in adverse listening conditions and how their speech processing is affected by the relatedness of the languages they know.
Your profile
Candidates are expected to have a Master degree in the field of (psycho)-linguistics, psychology, or a related discipline (with a specialization in speech/language processing).
We are looking for talented candidates with experience in statistical analysis as well as knowledge in at least one of the following methods/areas: online sentence processing, reaction time studies, eye tracking/pupillometry, ERP. Matlab skills, and/ or experience with E-prime will be helpful, as well as working knowledge of German and Dutch. We expect good command of English. Since the position entails close interdisciplinary cooperation with other disciplines (audiology, psychology), the willingness and ability to integrate methods, concepts and issues of the 'other' discipline into theories, concepts and methods current in one's own are required for successful work in this project.
Our standards
The University of Oldenburg is dedicated to increase the percentage of female employees in the field of science. Therefore, female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. In accordance to § 21 Section 3 NHG, female candidates with equal qualifications will be preferentially considered. Applicants with disabilities will be given preference in case of equal qualification.
Further information
The position is available from 1st of October 2025 (or as soon as possible after that) for the duration of three years. Salary is depending on previous experience and education (German pay scale E 13 TV-L, level 1 to 6).
