Study shows differentiated effects on mothers and fathers
How does the birth of a child change parents' attitudes towards environmental and climate issues? Prof. Dr. Gundula Zoch, Professor of Sociology of Social Inequalities at the University of Oldenburg, investigated this question together with Prof. Dr. Nicole Kapelle (Trinity College Dublin). Their new study shows: The widespread assumption that parents become fundamentally more environmentally aware after the birth of a child cannot be confirmed in this way.
Instead, mothers and fathers react differently: mothers express more concerns about environmental problems, while fathers are more concerned about climate change. Overall, environmental and climate concerns initially fade into the background after the birth - they only increase again as the children get older.
