Writing retreat for female* scientists of Faculty VI
October 31 - November 4, 2025, Langeoog
GET STARTED - WRITE - STAY TUNED!
What is a writing retreat?
In everyday life, scientists often find little time and peace to concentrate on their work. Female scientists in particular are often more involved in committee work and teaching than their male colleagues. In addition, women often take on more of the so-called care work in the family environment. As a result, they have very little concentrated time to write publications or proposals. However, these are of enormous importance for an academic career.
The writing retreat is a training for concentrated writing and enables the experience and learning of "deep work". The retreat is a break from the high mental load of everyday university life.
We create a working environment that allows you to immerse yourself in the individual writing process and devote yourself effectively to academic publications, proposals and projects.
At the writing retreat, we keep everyday distractions and tasks at bay through individual, professional support and an almost monastic, fixed, routine daily routine. Still, the retreat enables personal and professional exchange (peer review) and sustainably strengthens mental health through exercise, healthy eating, creative tasks and mindfulness techniques. As a result, many participants find and rediscover enjoyable learning and the joy of scientific writing and work, which sustainably promotes the career and productivity of female scientists during the qualification period.
Daily schedule
A firm daily structure promotes the necessary concentration and diminishes interruptions characteristic for every working day and the economy of attention fizzling out. The writing retreat offers rhythms and routines that promote and enable writing productivity. The ability to "be present in the moment" is the basis for enjoyable learning and scientific work. The concentrated times for writing are therefore framed by mindfulness practices as regular mindfulness practice promotes concentration and well-being, mobilizes inner resources that enable creative processes.
* The term "female scientists*" explicitly includes trans, inter and non-binary people.
