How to Apply for SuRE
Requirements
- Applicants must have successfully completed a regular academic programme in Engineering or Science (e.g. Physics, Mech. Eng., Electr. Eng.)
- Applicants have to provide certified proof of their English language competence (e.g. TOEFL, see below)
- Professional experience in the field of or related to (Renewable) Energy and/or Rural Development is appreciated; mandatory for DAAD applicants.

Make sure to hand in all required documents that are listed on their website. Incomplete applications will not be considered in the selection process.
Selection
Applications will be discussed by a selection committee selecting DAAD scholarships after the first deadline and all other participants after the second deadline.
Application Process
Application Deadlines (for study start in October 2026)
- for DAAD EPOS sponsored study spots: October 15th, 2025 (one year before entry)
- for regular study spots (self-financed or external sponsoring): January 15th, 2026 (9 months before entry)
The application period begins on August 15th, 2025, and closes with the second deadline on January 15th, 2026.
All applications must be submitted via the application portal (uni-assist) within the application period and prior to the repsective deadline for the desired study spot.
How to apply
- Applications must be submitted via uni-assist (Please check our FAQs for questions related to uni-assist)
- There is no possibility to hand in a paper application, neither to apply via email or any other digital channel!
- One exception is if the Bachelor's Degree was obtained in Germany (see below).
- Applicants for the DAAD EPOS sponsored study spots are strongly advised to check www.daad.de for requirements and documents the DAAD asks for.
Note: Applicants with a Bachelor's Degree obtained in Germany cannot apply directly through uni assist. In this case, applications are possible from December 15th, 2025, to January 15th, 2026, via the STUMS UOL portal. Follow: Application with a German Degree

DOCUMENTS NEEDED
You will have to prepare and scan the following documents for your application and upload (!) them as a pdf after registering and before the end of the deadline (DAAD EPOS: 15th October 2025 / regular: 15th January 2026); (note: zip-files are not accepted!)
- DAAD applicants: Please check the DAAD website for necessary documents
- Self-financing applicants: Financial statement – signed with current date (please see our FAQ for details)
- CV (please use the sample europass form at europa.eu/europass/en) with current date
- Letter of Motivation addressing the selection criteria and with current date (max. 2 pages long)
- Letter of recommendation from your current employer (if possible)
- Certificate(s) of Employment from employer(s) (if possible)
- Proof of English Language Proficiency: IELTS or TOEFL (Note: The institutional TOEFL is not accepted) or official statement from University that previous studies were conducted in English language. Native speakers of English are exempted.
- Copies of Academic Degrees (original document and additionally a certified translation if your certificate is neither in German nor English)
- Copies of Academic Transcripts incl. grading-scale (original document and certified translation if necessary)
Additionally: If you come from China, Vietnam or India, you also need to upload an APS certificate.
Please see our FAQ if you have any questions about the above documents. We cannot check your application for completeness, so please compare with the confirmation emails you will get after uploading if you handed in everything we asked for. If you are missing documents and do not provide an explanation, we will have to disqualify you without warning, unfortunately, due to the high number of applicants.
Prerequisites the student should bring along for the Master Programme SuRE
Besides technical knowledge of their degree, the participants of our program are expected to:
- Have established a good work organization through their practical experiences, preferably in the field of renewable energies, sustainable development or energy technique,
- Be able to familiarize themselves with a new topic autonomously (on a basic study level),
- Structure newly given material and judge the importance of details,
- Compare and judge facts out of different sources as well as compile information,
- Estimate their skills and knowledge of an object and further their understanding through concrete questions,
- Be dedicated to work with uncommon subjects,
- Communicate clearly and fluently in English,
- Work on interdisciplinary topics in a multicultural context
- Willingness to share knowledge and work as a team
- Be prepared to transcend common approaches of their previous subject.

We do not offer scholarships, but there is a large number of possible scholarship donors you can contact.
