Hearing, Speech and Neurotechnology
Our group focuses on bridging the gap between basic research and technological innovations in hearing, speech, and neuroscience. This requires close collaboration between the university and applied research expertise at the Fraunhofer Institute for Digital Media Technology IDMT’s Branch for Hearing, Speech and Audio Technology HSA. Consequently, our group integrates both realms, aiming to enhance the industry-driven research at Fraunhofer IDMT-HSA with a solid foundation in research. Thanks to our strong relationships with industry partners, we receive valuable feedback on practical challenges and market needs, which we strive to address from the research perspective.
Current research topics include
- Perceptual modeling for realtime applications, e.g., to control assistive hearing devices or to monitor broadcast audio streams;
- Evaluation methods to assess the benefit of novel speech enhancement schemes, e.g., based on perceptual, subjective, or neurophysiological measures;
- Personalized audio optimization solutions that account for individual preferences and needs.
