How are data-driven approaches transforming tax audits and investigations?

Guest lecture by the State Tax Office in the Master's course Accounting Analytics

We had the pleasure of welcoming Andre Klümpen from the State Tax Office (Landesamt für Steuern Niedersachsen) to our course on accounting analytics. We not only explained about his experience on how data-driven tools such as IDEA or PowerBI are currently used in tax audits, but we  also discussed approaches on how AI and analytics can help to detect tax fraud.

The Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg and the State Tax Office collaborate on the joint research project TADEA (Tax Defense Analytics), which has the goal to develop new approaches for the early detection of sales tax fraud cases and aggressive tax avoidance practices with the help of AI and data analytics.

A big thank you to Andre Klümpen for the engaging session and to all participants for the thoughtful questions and discussion!
