Congratulations to Prof. Dr. Sinikka Lennartz! The Junior Professor for Biogeochemical Ocean Modelling at the Institute for Chemistry and Biology of the Marine Environment (ICBM) has been awarded the Georg Wüst Prize 2025, which is presented by the German Society for Marine Research (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Meeresforschung, DGM) with the support of Springer Nature. She was honored with the award at the General Assembly of the European Geosciences Union (EGU) in Vienna.
The researcher receives the award for her internationally recognized and groundbreaking work on microbial processes in the ocean, the global carbon cycle and the development of innovative modelling approaches that help us to better understand the role of the ocean in the climate system. Lennartz was recently awarded the DFG's Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Prize for her research.
The DGM awards the Georg Wüst Prize annually to an outstanding researcher for exceptional contributions to marine research. It is named after Georg Wüst (1890-1977), a pioneer of oceanography, and is awarded both for scientific excellence and for a spirit of curiosity and interdisciplinary cooperation. The prize is endowed with 1,500 euros and is accompanied by honorary membership of the DGM.
