On Tuesday, 5 August 2025, SciReef GmbH was honored with the "MOTOR OF THE NORTH" award. The award recognizes outstanding ideas and innovations from the Ems-Elbe region and was created by POWERHOUSE NORD. The award was presented by the Mayor of Wilhelmshaven, Mr Carsten Feist, and Mr Sepp Thiele from POWERHOUSE NORD.

SciReef GmbH is a spin-off from the University of Oldenburg and the ICBM Wilhelmshaven. The team led by Dr Samuel Nietzer and Dr Mareen Möller has been researching coral reproduction for over ten years and has developed processes that make sexual coral breeding commercially viable on a large scale for the first time - a breakthrough for global marine conservation.

SciReef was honored with the Innovation Award of the City of Wilhelmshaven in the "Start-Ups & Project Teams" category back in 2023. The latest honor once again confirms the company's pioneering work.

In September, all regional award winners will have the chance to be chosen as the annual winner by a jury.
