The magician's coat → a white lab coat!
The glass ball → safety goggles!
In July, it was the youngest children's turn in the ChemOL (Chemistry in Oldenburg) laboratory at the Institute of Chemistry. The pre-school children from the Don Bosco Friesoythe kindergarten carried out experiments on the subject of air in the laboratories of the Chemistry Didactics working group (Prof Dr Timm Wilke) together with students. The focus was on the behaviour of air in different situations. It was shown that air is not nothing, but a substance that has properties like other substances - even if these are not easily visible.
In this way, the children were introduced to individual scientific phenomena through their own actions and behaviour in the laboratory. They learnt about, experienced, investigated and described these phenomena and hopefully will be able to pass on the following to their fellow human beings:
>> Wow - that's magical!
>> Oh no - that's just chemistry!
