On the first floor of the Central Library on Haarentor Campus, the BIS presents a small selection of the nearly 400 books that were recently removed from the US Naval Academy's library - including works on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI). Similar removals are currently happening in numerous libraries in the USA.
This is a consequence of a decree recently issued by the Trump administration, which requires schools and other state institutions to remove content that is considered politically indoctrinating. US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth reacted accordingly. Many school libraries in the USA are following this course and systematically weeding out books with DEI content.
We believe, however, that libraries have a special responsibility to uphold freedom of science and expression and to ensure unrestricted access to knowledge. We invite you to come and see for yourself. All books on display can be borrowed on a regular basis.
